Presidential Inauguration 2025: A Guide for Esteemed Guests of Fairmont Washington D.C., Georgetown   

When and where will the Inauguration ceremony take place? 

The 60th Presidential Inauguration ceremony is scheduled for Monday, January 20, 2025, on the western steps of the United States Capitol. While the official commencement time is yet to be confirmed, it is anticipated to begin at approximately 10:00 a.m. 

What is the recommended method of transportation to the Capitol? 

Given the extensive road closures in the days leading up to the event, we strongly adviseutilizing public transportation. The Metro system offers convenient access: 

Red Line: Board at Dupont Circle, disembark at Gallery Place or Union Station 

Blue or Orange Lines: Board at Foggy Bottom-GWU, alight at L'Enfant Plaza or Federal City SW 

Please be aware that some stations may be closed on Inauguration Day. 

What level of security should guests anticipate? 

As befits an event of this magnitude, security measures will be comprehensive. Expect a visible presence of Metropolitan Police and federal law enforcement officers. Security checkpoints with metal detectors will be in place at key locations. We recommend allowing ample time for these necessary procedures and kindly request that you extend every courtesy to the security personnel. 

How will transportation be affected during Inauguration week? 

The city will experience heightened activity and numerous road closures. We strongly recommend booking any required car services well in advance. While ride-sharing services will be operational, please anticipate extended wait times and premium pricing. We adviseallocatingadditional time for all journeys within the city. 

What attire is appropriate for the weather conditions? 

January in Washington D.C. can be quite cold, with temperatures often at or below freezing. We recommend warm outerwear, including a coat, hat, and gloves. For those attending outdoor events, comfortable footwear is essential. 

Where will the Inaugural balls be held? 

The official Inaugural balls are expected to take place at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. Additional sanctioned events may be hosted at various prestigious venues throughout the city. 

What other activities does Washington D.C. offer during this period? 

While the city will be bustling with Inauguration-related events, many of Washington's renowned attractions will maintain their regular operating hours. These include the Smithsonian museums, National Gallery of Art, and various national monuments. Georgetown's distinguished shopping and dining district is within walking distance of Fairmont and is certainly worth exploring. 

Washington D.C. boasts an impressive culinary scene, recognized by its own Michelin Guide. We strongly recommend securing dinner reservations well in advance, as the city's finest establishments will be in high demand. 

Which airports serve Washington D.C.? 

The city is served by three international airports: 

Ronald Reagan National Airport (DCA): Nearest to the hotel, approximately 15 minutes away 

Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD): Ideal for international arrivals, about 45 minutes from the Fairmont 

Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI): Approximately one hour from the hotel 

For those traveling by rail, Amtrak services the Northeast and Southern United States via Washington Union Station (WAS).
