Rise early, bundle up and enjoy the most memorable sunrise of your life atop Haleakalā. Rising 10,023 feet above sea level, Mount Haleakalā is the world's largest dormant volcano. The name means "House of the Sun" because it seemingly cradles the sun itself as it gently rises into the sky.
The park offers hiking, sightseeing, horseback riding, downhill biking, and amazing sunrises and sunsets.
Local tip: Bring your layers and stop for hot chocolate of coffee at Pukalani Superette. It may be Maui, but it gets cold up there before sunrise. Bring a blanket and you will thank us as you snuggle up!
*Sunrise viewing reservations are required (3:00am - 7:00am) and are only available at www.recreation.gov. The cost is $1.50 per car. Must bring a printed copy of reservation confirmation.
