1988 - The Banff Springs Hotel Opened

William Cornelious Van Horn had a vision to bring the beauty of the Canadian Rocky Mountains to the rest of the world. He commissioned blueprints for an impressive hotel to be built. Construction began in 1887 and the hotel opened on Jun 1, 1888.

1907 - Fairmont San Francisco Opened

Decades later, Fair sisters sought to honor their father, James Graham Fair. Inspired by his legacy, they built a grand hotel in San Francisco in 1907, combining their last name, “Fair,” with the hilltop location “Mont” to create the Fairmont Hotel.

1945 - A United World for Peace

Global history was made in the Garden Room of Fairmont San Francisco on June 26, 1945, when 50 countries came together to draft and sign the Charter establishing the United Nations.

1969 - The Bed in For Peace

In 1969, John Lennon and Yoko Ono make suite 1742 famous with their week-long Bed-In for Peace at Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth, the famous couple compose and record the anti-war anthem, "Give Peace a Chance" from their bed.
