What is one local dish that I need to try in Barbados?
Don’t leave Barbados without trying “Pudding & Souse”! Cooked pork with a medley of fresh garden herbs, cucumber, lime and scotch bonnet peppers, is paired with a seasoned sweet potato puree and a few slices of steamed breadfruit. If you have the opportunity to indulge in this dish, make sure to have it with a glass of our liquid gold, rum. This is a favourite of most Bajans on Saturdays, when you can find the neighbourhood corner shop serving this much-loved dish.

What is your top insider’s tip for enjoying the island like a local?
Though only 166 square miles and thousands of smiles wide, there is a lot to see in Barbados! The best way to get around is to hire a car and plan where you want to go. The plantation houses, gardens, historical sites, cities and beaches will be minutes within each other.
What does a perfect day look like at Fairmont Royal Pavilion?
As you awake to the perfect day in Barbados, you find yourself drawn to the to the ocean views from your balcony. The comfortable loungers below beckon you, but first you must have breakfast. You stroll through the pathways surrounded by lush tropical plants and make your way to the restaurant. The well laid out buffet ensures you maintain your dietary preferences with fruit, wholesome breads and pastries, a varied hot selection and personal omelettes. When you return to your seat, your coffee and freshly squeezed juice are waiting.
After enjoying the delectable meal, you walk across the long stretch of beach with the waves lapping at your heels. You choose your preferred spot and within seconds, one of the beach attendants offers to adjust your umbrella. As time goes by, you are greeted by a smiling beach server offering you a drinks list and a menu to peruse so that you can see the day’s lunch selection. You may also find a souvenir or two in one of the brightly coloured chattel houses and see the art and craft of locals as you stroll around this historical town.
