recent employee contest, is gemstones of the

Claudia Leccacorvi, Interior Designer
with CHIL Design Group, offers a sneak
peek at the hotel’s interior.
“How will it look inside?” is a question we
hear often. The inspiration for the interior
design of Fairmont Pacific Rim finds origins
in a

number of modern influences–a
minimalist approach forming the basis for
many of the furniture and finishing decisions
throughout. Streamlined metals and woods
cleanly surround sophisticated fabrics in
a direct reference to European design
philosophy. Asian influence shines in the
purity of materials and the organization of
line. Meanwhile, the inherent qualities of

wood and stone have shaped the millwork and
spaces. And, as an added touch, the distinct
folds of a large–scale light sculpture blanket the
ceiling of the grand ballrooms. Overall,
the harmonious fusion of East and West
creates a unique solution for a significant
structure within the Vancouver landscape:
Fairmont Pacific Rim.

Randy Zupanski, General Manager of
Fairmont Pacific Rim, has 27 years of
hospitality–industry experience–from
slinging highballs to sporting hard hats.
Join him for his monthly insights, as the
hotel grows from the ground up.
I came on board in May of 2008 to oversee
the opening of this remarkable oceanfront
property. While Fairmont Pacific Rim will
be the third Fairmont property in downtown
Vancouver, it will definitely stand apart as
the city’s newest and most luxurious
destination. To date, I’ve had the pleasure
(and experience) of opening three
properties. Each was uniquely challenging
and rewarding, and I expect much of the
same with Fairmont Pacific Rim–a setting
more beautiful than I could have imagined.

With the enclosure of the hotel floors
behind us, we now turn our attention to the
guest rooms, which are beginning to take
shape. During the construction process,
I’ve become acutely aware of the pressures
that exist in all areas of development. I’ve
learned to be patient and flexible, taking
time to know the community, all while
keeping my eyes on the ultimate goal of
opening a first–class hotel in a world–class
city. I wish to be no place else–especially,
as we approach that important milestone of
“topping off” the building, this month, after
two and a half years of construction.
In closing, I’d also like to introduce our
hard–working and enthusiastic team. Please
feel free to contact us, or drop by our
Pre–Opening Offices, at any time.
