1930

The world's largest log cabin

In February of 1930, the site where Fairmont Le Château Montebello now stands was a clearing in the woods. Just four months later, the massive cedar Château was complete: a building feat which captured the popular imagination of the time, inspiring newspaper features across North America.

1930+ The Seigniory Club

For 40 years after its completion in 1930, the log château was the private retreat of the Seigniory Club, whose elite membership included reputed Canadian businessmen and politicians such as former Prime Minister Lester B. Pearson, and foreign dignitaries such as Prince Rainier and Princess Grace of Monaco.

When the world's leaders were looking for a place to meet, they chose us. In 1981, Le Château Montebello played host to the international Summit Conference housing seven of the most powerful leaders of the industrialized world. Rt. Hon. Pierre Trudeau chaired this meeting as the eyes of the world looked on.

2007 North American Summit

The leaders of Canada, Mexico and the United States came together for a trilateral summit in August 2007. The Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America (SPP) conference at Fairmont Le Château Montebello brought together Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, Mexican President Felipe Calderón, and US President George W. Bush. During their short stay, they were pleased to discover the resort and meet the employees. It was a memorable visit for all those present.

2018 marked the beginning of a new chapter in Fairmont Le Château Montebello’s story as it began its year-long process to renovate half of its guest rooms. This turning point represents a total investment of over $17.5 M. At the forefront of the renovation project is the wish to preserve and renovate this icon of the region’s heritage and ensure its continuity while adding a contemporary dimension that will enable it to meet the highest expectations.

At Fairmont, sustainability is key. From sourcing to waste, we're dedicated to eliminating single-use plastics for a greener future.

Meeting planners have the opportunity to minimize the ecological footprint of meetings and events through the reduction of waste and conservation of valuable resources.
Fairmont addresses waste challenges, like paper and packaging, by consistently reducing and diverting waste. Despite obstacles, we pursue eco-friendly solutions, even in communities lacking recycling facilities.
Fairmont conserves energy by using compact fluorescent bulbs and water-efficient fixtures. We replace high-flush toilets and encourage guests to join our towel and sheet exchange program, reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Fairmont is committed to purchasing local, organic, Fair Trade and sustainable food products wherever possible including utilizing organic wines, local purveyors and on-site garden.

Attended wedding, beautiful venue

Family wedding with the ceremony by the River and the reception at the golf course. Stayed one night with children and grandchildren and enjoyed the pool the next day. Great experience.

We come here every July and it's wonderful every time. The food, the atmosphere, the pool parties, the late night scrabble games. On and on. The staff are well trained, but also authentically very nice. The food is gourmet. We will keep coming back.

Impossible to get bored!

The room was small yet comfortable and quiet. There are so many activities to do that it is impossible to get bored. The entire site is clean and very well maintained. We will come back for sure.

Great service. Lots to do. The ac in the rooms are obviously on some sort of timer and don't let you make it colder than 20°. Even when it says 20 you wake up hot. This has happened every time I stay here.
