Discover
Reminiscent of the hot springs that beckoned travellers over 100 years ago, the pulsating waterfalls and the mineral pool in the heart of the Banff spa soothe troubled spirits.
The Beginning
William Cornelius Van Horne had a vision to bring the beauty of the Canadian Rocky Mountains to the rest of the world. He commissioned blueprints for an impressive hotel to be built at the convergence of the Bow and Spray River, in what is now known as Canada's first National Park. Construction began in 1887 and the hotel publically opened on June 1, 1888.
By the start of the twentieth century, the Banff Springs luxury Hotel had developed into one of the top three mountain getaways in North America. Disaster struck in 1926 when the original wooden hotel burnt down. It was rebuilt larger and in its present appearance commencing in 1928.
Roaring Twenties and the Great Depression
Throughout the 1920s and 30s, the hotel was able to combine day-to-day hotel life with the concept of luxurious hotel living. The depression played a part in the 'golden era' as well.
Through the 1940s to 60s, the hotel struggled to reclaim the success it had before the war. The hotel went through a significant change, adapting to the economics of the time. Transportation, convenience and availability to monetary funds jointly changed the whole perspective of the hotel.
"Since we can't export the scenery, we'll have to import the tourists."
William Cornelius Van Horne
By the 70s, the hotel reached a pivotal point. For the first time, Banff Springs remained open for the winter season, becoming a year-round resort destination. The 80s then brought expansion and renovation back to the hotel.

The Fairmont Banff Springs staff was good overall - however, their internet wifi dropped many times - at the Gold Club breakfast buffet, the scrambled eggs were below acceptable.
Nice location but the hotel could provide guests with some live music in the evening. Also the bathroom in our room needs a remodel.
Stayed several days as part of Tauck group. Not as nice as the other Fairmonts on the trip. Food was often cold and service slow. Failed to follow through on delivering microwave and utensils to room. Staff was great in helping with my wife's illness. Provided wheelchair to ambulance and upon return. Very solicitous. Much appreciated.Housekeeping very friendly and helpful.
Fairmont Gold (5th floor) for our 20th anniversary getaway of 5 nights. Every staff member was courteous, helpful and friendly. Every activity was fun. Room service was prompt and satisfying. The communications pre-trip were excellent. I cannot imagine better service!

The Facility was centrally located and restaurant s and tours, Tea went well. Staff was very helpful. So relaxing.
This is my second stay at Banff springs and I will definitely be back. Unbeatable location and such a warm and inviting hotel.
Had a great time. Amazing staff. The valet team saved us to avoid a flat tire.

Everything was top notch. I truly felt like royalty during our stay.
Everyone was very nice and helpful. The service was excellent. The room that we had originally was very small with one very small window. We requested a different room and Noah worked very hard to get us moved to a bigger room. We went from being disappointed to being very satisfied.
